Eduardo Azuaje (1968, Venezuela) comes from Pariaguan, a region rich in the indigenous culture of the Kariña indians.  Azuaje integrates elements of this culture, notably here the curiara canoe, into his paintings.  He represents the jungle and water elements of his native region in a way that reflects the mysticism and spirituality of ancient culture.  He employs a unique collage technique, using diverse materials including acrylic paint, charcoal sticks, sand, glue and carpentry sealer to create the textures in his works of art.

Azuaje has won prestigious national prizes in Venezuela as well as international recognition including the Premio Unico España at the II Salón Internacional de Arte in Bolivia.  He has works of art in the permanent collections of several museums in Venezuela, including the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Sofía Imber in Caracas.  His work has been exhibited across Venezuela and internationally in Italy, the United States, Canada, France, Brazil, Panama and Guayana.
